The Chinese equipment manufacturer ZPMC has delivered four new megamax ship-to-shore cranes to Tanjung Pelepas. The new cranes add to a shipment of four similar units that arrived at the Malaysian container hub port in June.
The new cranes were delivered fully-assembled aboard the transport ship ZHEN HUA 15, and they are expected to become operational later this year.
With a throughput of 9.01 Mteu in 2019, Tanjung Pelepas currently ranks 18th among the global container ports. Together with the neighbouring rival port of Singapore (32.2 Mteu in 2019, the global number two), Tanjung Pelepas forms a Straits mega-hub which connects north-south and east-west traffic, as well as regional and inter- continental liner services.
The port’s only container terminal Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) is a joint venture of the Malaysian utility and infrastructure conglomerate MMC Corporation (70%) and AMPT (30%), the port operating branch of the Danish A.P. Møller-Maersk Group.
