Seaspan Corporation has been identified as the buyer of two 13,300 teu vessels controlled by Hamburg- based Peter Döhle Schiffahrt, the Madrid Express and Paris Express, which have been acquired for a price of USD 146M en bloc.
The purchase comes with a long-term charter of both vessels to Hapag-Lloyd which was agreed in November 2018, in combination with a scrubber retrofitting.
The Madrid Express and Paris Express were built in 2010 and 2011 respectively by South Korea’s Samsung H.I. originally as the Fabiola and Fillippa. They feature a deadweight of 153,500 tons, a Loa of 366 metres and a beam of 48.20 metres. They are fitted with 1,000 reefer plugs.
The vessels started their career with an eight-year charter to MSC which was operating them as the MSC Fabiola and MSC Fillippa. They were subsequently fixed to Hapag-Lloyd upon expiry of these employments.
Of note, with the sale of these vessels, Peter Döhle Schiffahrt will no longer own any ULCS tonnage of 13,000 teu, having sold in 2019 to Navigare Capital Partners of Denmark the other two vessels they were controlling in the same size range, the sister units Rome Express and Southampton Express.
