Port of Sines starts expansion works

The Port of Sines has started expansion works with consignment of the East Breakwater enlargement, which will enable the port to double its containerized cargo capacity.

The works represent a total investment of circa. €72m and have been contracted to Conduril – Engenharia SA. The contract comprises the enlargement of the breakwater by 750m  to reinforce the protection of the east side of the Port of Sines, namely with regard to the next expansion phase of the Sines Container Terminal – Terminal XXI.

Completion of the works is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023 and will double the installed capacity of Terminal XXI to 4.1m teu, creating the ideal conditions for the simultaneous reception of four container vessels each with an overall length of 400m.

On 12 October 2019, an amendment to the concession contract for expansion of Terminal XXI was signed including a private investment of €661m, under the responsibility of PSA Sines.
