MCS Paris became the first ship to carry cargo from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Israel when it entered Haifa Port on Monday. The ship’s cargo included iron, firefighting equipment, cleaning equipment and electronic equipment.
“This is the first time that imported containers have been transported directly from the ports of Abu Dhabi and Jabal Ali to the port of Haifa,” explained Edni Simkin, chief executive officer of MSC Israel, adding that this is “a big change from what it was in the past, which included lengthy charges and political bills. Now there is a simple and clear bill of lading that says Abu Dhabi – Haifa Port.”
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted: “For the first time, a cargo ship from the United Arab Emirates has now entered the port of Haifa. A new trade route opens between the United Arab Emirates and Israel!”
