Lyttelton Port levels up with new reefer solution

The Lyttleton Port Company (LPC) has decided to take its referee monitoring system to the next level by equipping the port with 460 Reefer Runner tags installed by Identec Solutions’ Terminal Tracker.

Mike Simmers, general manager for infrastructure and property at LPC, said: “The longstanding, strong relationship was of course a decisive factor in the decision-making progress. We needed a reliable and flexible partner, especially as the implementation phase fell into the peak of the pandemic.”

The Reefer Runner application will work alongside Terminal Tracker to further contribute to the automation of the operational processes in the Lyttelton Port container terminal.

The implementation of the system was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic however Paul Hebrard, Identec’s VP of Sales for Marine & Ports, and his team were able to adapt to the new situation.

Hebrard said: “Our initial tasks were implementation with onsite installation training – of course this was no longer possible due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

“With our flexible system and a team that will bend over backwards, we managed to perform all installation support and training remotely.”

The go-live was completed as scheduled on September 8, 2020 despite the disruption.
