Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) has announced that cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) dropped 12.4 percent in March compared to the same month last year.
The decline in cargo throughput was mainly attributed to a 42 percent decrease in transhipments. Exports were stable while imports grew slightly by 1 percent year-on-year.
Vivian Cheung, executive director, airport operations, AA, commented: “The whole airport community is encountering unprecedented hardship amid the covid-19 pandemic.”
Over the first quarter the year, cargo throughput fell 10.9 percent to 988,000 tonnes compared to the same period last year. On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput decreased by 7.3 percent to 4.7 million tonnes.
