With the rapid scaling up of its cargo network to close to 60 destinations across the world, Emirates SkyCargo is taking additional measures to ensure the safety of its employees and operations during the covid-19 pandemic.
Since March, Emirates SkyCargo has already established protocols for its teams around the world to practice protective measures including regular hand washing, practicing social distancing and wearing of equipment including masks and gloves.
In addition to setting up thermal body temperature scanners at key locations at its hub in Dubai, the air cargo carrier has now also set up four sanitisation tunnels for employees and visitors to go through prior to entering the Emirates SkyCentral cargo terminal at Dubai International Airport. The tunnels utilise non-toxic sanitisers authorised by governing authorities to neutralise germs and viruses without causing any harm to the person passing through the tunnel.
Emirates SkyCargo is also carrying out continuous disinfection of its cargo terminal- including the cargo handling and storage areas as well as the customer reception centres and cargo drop off/ pickup zones to ensure the wellbeing of employees as well as its customers. Aircraft cargo holds and equipment including Unit Load Devices are also disinfected on a regular basis.
Henrik Ambak, Emirates Senior Vice President, Cargo Operations Worldwide commented: “Emirates SkyCargo will always put safety first ahead of all other considerations. Over the last few weeks we have scaled up our operations to a position where we are handling around 3,000 tonnes of cargo on a daily basis. In these conditions, we want to make sure that we maintain an operating environment that is safe for our teams and for our customers.
“Consolidating all our cargo operations at one location at our hub, installing sanitisation facilities, instilling social distancing and protective behaviour in our people and continuous disinfection of our facilities are just some of the measures we have taken over the last few weeks. We will continue to evaluate and implement initiatives that will enhance the safety of our employees and protect our operations globally.”
