CMA CGM Group has partnered with Shell for the supply of tens of thousands of tonnes of marine biofuel to its fleet.
The volume of fuel will allow CMA CGM’s vessels to travel almost one million kilometres, equivalent to over 80 round-trips between Rotterdam in the Netherlands and the US city of New York.
The fuel to be supplied under the new partnership with Shell is comprised of 80% low sulphur fuel oil and 20% biofuel, sourced from used cooking oil. The biofuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 80% and virtually eliminates emissions of sulphur oxides.
The new partnership builds on the company’s current initiatives for environmental protection and confirms its pioneering role in shipping sector’s energy transition.
